A born-and-bred Manhattanite, Shoshanna Gruss studied art history before pursuing her passion for design full-time. Her dedication to flattering silhouettes and a penchant for whimsical details have made her a mainstay in the industry since the debut of her first dress collection in 1998.
Married colleagues Pankaj and Nidhi Ahuja have been designing together since 2006. Patchwork quilts and crewelwork rugs inspired these particular pieces, each a kaleidoscopic vision of embroidery, topstitch and knitting.
Eye-catching embroidery inspired by a vintage fabric swatch we found in India adds a burst of color to a classic shift dress. The easy silhouette is made from a supersoft blend of linen and cotton, but we added back darts to give it a slightly fitted shape, so it’s still feminine. Win-win.
Perfectly placed panels of intricate geometric lace (we specially designed it at our in-house studio) make our simple cotton shift dress anything but, well, simple. Finished with a sheer illusion bodice to show off just the right amount of skin, it’s a spotlight stealer for parties, picnics, poolsides and more—and it works equally as well when you’re just parked at your desk.
